Whether it’s the forests and grasslands we manage

the processes we champion or the buildings we construct

sustainability is always front of mind.

Our Purpose

(1993-today)

Coming from the wood products industry, we developed a great respect for our woodlands and forests. We’ve taken the time to understand forestry so we can invest our success in the land we have to thank for it. Early on, we understood that our forests must be managed for sustainability, so we began planting trees in 1993.

We continue to acquire land, restore areas to their native state, protect fish and wildlife, as well as safeguard fragile ecosystems that could otherwise be interrupted. This sense of purpose continues into our commercial ventures, as we consider the materials we choose and the building practices we follow. We bring sustainability to every commercial enterprise.

Forestry

We have over 12,000 acres of forest under our wing, which we own and manage not only to protect its future, but maximize its impact. This pursuit includes ensuring disease and fires can’t spread, maintaining roads and keeping streams clear, as well as encouraging the forest itself to grow. All this means the land can thrive, which, in return, has the potential to absorb up to 48,000 tons of CO2.

Native Ranch Grasslands

North America’s native grasslands are some of the richest carbon stores and a life-force for endless species, but they’re vanishing rapidly across the country. To counteract this loss, due to development, overgrazing, invasive weeds and the land being converted to harvest crops, we now manage 4,000 acres of our own native grassland. The most rewarding part of this process is seeding native grasses, and seeing the land restored to its native, untouched state.

Streams

It’s no secret water and life go hand in hand, and nowhere is that truer than Cameron Creek in Sula, MT. Unfortunately, years of overgrazing had damaged its riparian habitat. This wetland is filled with diverse vegetation and wildlife, shaped by the presence of water. To reinvigorate it, we placed two miles under fenced protection, planting hundreds of native plants and shrubs to restore vegetation and breathe new life into the creek. This act has enhanced the water quality, seen the rainbow trout population soar and even brought beavers back to their once home.

Fish & Wildlife

As well as creating carbon sinks, our forests offer all kinds of animals, birds and aquatic life an environment where they can survive and thrive. From bears, wolves and elk to raptors, foxes and songbirds, the diversity of species we help protect shows just how important forests are in our collective ecosystem. We follow the lead of this wildlife, removing fencing in tune with migration patterns and learning from the population shifts new biodiversity brings.
